A requirement of graduation from Oxford School’s Early College Program is that Mia, our daughter, must complete a Capstone project. OSEC describes it as a “service learning project completed during the student’s 13th year. Service learning has proven time and again to be an effective means of helping students apply the knowledge of their educational experience to a world beyond them. It also serves a greater purpose…an opportunity for students to give of themselves.”

It has been amazing watching Mia put this project together. First, she negotiated a partnership with Bees in the D, a Detroit based non-profit business, designed a sales and marketing plan to sell our special brand of raw honey and worked Facebook, email and farmer’s markets to generate sales with 50% of all sales going to fund Bees in the D honeybee awareness programs.
